Rice is a staple in most asian households. Me and you, we eat rice almost everyday.

Carbs, as one of the macronutrients, provide energy as fuel for the body, and yes, rice are carbs. It is common for people to associate their fear of weight gain with ‘refined carbs’ like white rice which are processed and spikes blood sugar levels, leaving us with that “sugar high”.....eventually tempting us to eat more.
.
Let’s take a step back and focus on what REALLY leads to weight gain in the first place. While it can be caused by many factors, our diet and lifestyle are the factors we can take control of. When it comes to weight gain, it’s all about energy in and out. When excess energy is consumed regularly and unused, an energy imbalance occurs. This is why overeating of any food (especially energy-densed foods) and an inactive lifestyle are the fundamental issues! In fact, a habitual energy imbalance of 50-100 kcal is enough to cause gradual weight gain. You can see why most weight gain happens so easily and unintended!
.
Even white rice can form a balanced diet if consumed moderately at the right proportions. So nope, eating rice does not necessarily lead to weight gain.
