Shirataki/ Konjac noodles (蒟蒻麵) are very popular in recent years for its "low carb", "nearly 0 calorie" properties 🥢 (this might not apply to all brands as extra seasonings might be added so please make sure you check the nutritional label before buying‼️). It is composed of glucomannan, a non-digestible carb that is considered as dietary fibre ❇️ While many of u might think calculating calories is the key to lose weight and try to replace main meals with low calorie diet foods, they might not be able to offer sufficient energy and nutrient for maintaining healthy functioning of the body. For example, you might risk having malnutrition if you only take konjac noodles in meals 😷
.
But is very low calorie diet effective in weight loss?
Tho very low calorie diet (less than or around 800 calories per day) might be effective in lowering weight in short term, it cannot be used as a long term weight management strategy. It is also highly likely that you will regain the weight after the diet😥 The strategy of very low calorie diet is only recommended to adults who are obese (BMI over 30) and needs clinical supervision. For the case of konjac noodles, it is recommended to be taken as a fibre supplement to meals, instead of a meal replacement🍲
