Skipping Breakfast = Weight Gain?

The word in itself says it all: ‘break-fast’, meaning it is the first meal you take in the morning (10am-11am) after a long overnight sleep and fasting💤.

The authorities have long encouraged our society to eat breakfast🍛. Studies were done showing that breakfast skippers were linked with a higher body📈 weight compared to regular breakfast eaters.

🙂But.... how is skipping a whole meal on its own lead to weight gain when clearly lesser calories are consumed?

Perhaps you have experienced this yourself, but when you skip breakfast you feel like eating more for the next meal?

Observations showed breakfast eaters have a better overall energy intake💪, making them likely to engage in more physical activities 🏃‍♀️throughout the day. They also tend to have better diet quality and lifestyle. But can breakfast be the direct cause of people losing weight or being healthier? There’s not enough evidence for that.


☝️It all boils down to one’s daily routine and a matter of choice. Those who practise intermittent fasting may skip breakfast, and those who wake up with poor appetite may choose a later time to start their first meal of the day.

Nonetheless, eating breakfast is a good habit to have since you may feel energised to start a full day of learning or working, and it may fuel yourself to make better food choices✅ for the rest of the day.

你可能也有經歷過,就是當你不吃早餐,可能會在下一餐吃更多。


吃早餐的人看起來有更充足的整體能量攝取,令他們在一天裏活動身體多一點。他們也有更好的飲食質素和生活模式。可是吃早餐是體重減輕和變得健康的主要原因嗎?現在還沒有足夠證據去證明這點。


其實一切都取決於一個人的日常習慣和選擇。選擇斷斷續續節食的人會不吃早餐,而起床後感到胃口不太好的人,則會選擇遲一些才吃一天的第一餐。


不過,吃早餐是一個好習慣,因為你會充滿能量地開始一天的學習或工作; 也為你提供足夠能量在一天接下來的時間好好的選擇吃甚麼。
